Sublime. Great player, great tune, great venue.

I knew a man who crossed paths professionally with Jeff Beck a few times. He described him as 'a lovely guy'.

RIP

Re: Jeff Beck - Has played his last chord

Agreed.

My father in law saw all the great gutarists of the sixties and believes he was the best and I have never understood his reasoning! I've listened to TRUTH and that was a good album, but his live stuff sounds like a teenager has just taken up the guitar!
As for Hi Ho Silver, the shortened story was that he hated it but needed something commercial and that he deliberately messed up the solo parts (out of spite)
Watching him playing in live footage makes me cringe

What a self indulgence bore fest this guitarist became. Just like Clapton. Only good in the Yardbirds.

Certainly a great talent. A guitarist’s guitarist.
RIP.

There are plenty of Dave Gilmour/ Slash/Stevie Ray vaughn clones etc. etc. out there plying their trade. The biggest compliment you can pay Jeff Beck is that no one else played or sounded quite like him - a total one-off.

He will be missed.

Re: Jeff Beck - Has played his last chord
Speaking to a few of my Guitar playing mates (played in bands worked in music shops etc)... and my take on it is... he never really done anything for me... I'm not a Guitarist so I listen rather than watch finger plucking ... my take on a great guitarist is that it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... Jimi, Clapoff, Page, Pete T and yeah even the Edge... they are players that put me into a different place... I never got that with Hi Ho Silver Lining (ok joking I liked some of his stuff in the Yardbirds)... but his volume of great work is well.... you know...

Lol

Prince was technically excellent but was wasn't one of the great original guitarists. He was more like a very talented mimic.

Will wail out a few licks filled with raspy upper mid tones on the JB signature pickups in my les paul by way of respect.

the great gig in the sky has a hell of a bill these days.

For a guitar legend he had a surprisingly small amount of record sales. He must have been embarrassed that his biggest hit was Hi Ho, Silverlining.
